DIY Toilet Paper Roll Flamingo Craft Tutorial

Hi craft lovers! Today I’m sharing one of my favorite upcycled kids’ crafts ever — a super cute toilet paper roll flamingo! It’s quick, budget-friendly, and perfect for a rainy afternoon craft session with the little ones.

🧾 What You’ll Need

This project uses mostly household and basic craft supplies, so you probably already have most of these at home:

  • 1 empty toilet paper roll (or a paper towel roll cut to size)
  • Pink construction paper (two shades work best — a bright main pink and a lighter pink for details)
  • Black construction paper (for the beak tip)
  • Googly eyes (or a black marker if you don’t have any)
  • White craft glue or a glue stick
  • Scissors (adult supervision recommended for kids)
  • A thin paintbrush or white paint marker (optional, for the wavy feather details)

🪜 Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Prep the Base

Start with your empty toilet paper roll. This will be the flamingo’s body, so it keeps the craft standing up nice and sturdy. You can leave it plain brown like I did, or paint it pink to match the rest of your bird if you want a more polished look!

Step 2: Cut Out the Flamingo Shapes

  • Trace and cut the flamingo’s head and neck from the bright pink paper. Make sure to curve the neck into that classic elegant flamingo S-shape!
  • Cut out two wing shapes from the same bright pink paper. They don’t have to be perfect — the scalloped edge gives them that feathery look.
  • From the lighter pink paper, cut thin wavy lines to add as feather details on the wings and body. For the beak, cut a small black triangle and a slightly larger pink triangle, then glue them together to make the two-toned flamingo beak.

Step 3: Assemble the Face

Glue the googly eye onto the flamingo’s head, then attach the two-toned beak. If you don’t have googly eyes, you can just draw one on with a black marker — it will still look just as cute!

Step 4: Add the Feather Details

Glue the light pink wavy lines onto the wings and body to mimic the flamingo’s soft feathers. This little detail really makes the craft pop and gives it that tropical vibe.

Step 5: Attach Everything to the Roll

Glue the flamingo’s neck and head to the top front of the toilet paper roll. Then glue the two wings to the sides of the roll, letting them stick out like they’re about to take flight! Hold everything in place for a minute to make sure the glue dries properly.

✨ Why I Love This Craft

This flamingo craft is such a great example of how simple upcycling can turn trash into treasure. It’s perfect for kids to practice their cutting and gluing skills, and it makes a super cute decoration for a summer-themed playroom or bedroom. Plus, it’s zero-waste — that empty toilet paper roll gets a whole new life as a tropical friend!

You can even mix it up: use different shades of pink, add glitter to the wings, or make a whole flock of flamingos for a fun party centerpiece. It’s totally customizable to your style!
